Our criminal justice system is broken. It is incumbent on the General Assembly to begin the process of simplifying and modernizing our state's criminal laws and reforming criminal procedure to better protect the innocent and punish the guilty. We are also in need of stronger protections for victims' rights, which are too often ignored. The civil justice system is likewise in need of reform to reduce the costs of litigation and increase access to justice for those who would otherwise lack the means to seek redress in the courts. I will be an advocate for reform in all of these areas.
